Review: Sleepless by Terri Clark

When Trinity's best friend, Coral leaves for the summer they make a pinkie promise to learn how to live with having a great time doing so. This mean Trin has to wear more bright and cheerful colors not the goth get up she usually wears. Also, she has to get a date before the end of summer. Easy, she thinks.

Though, Trinity's summer takes a turn for the worse when a serial killer starts to stalk her dreams leaving her scared for life. Trin has a secret that could get rid of the normal girl everyone thinks she is. Her secret is she has a semi super power where she can see into people's dreams and find out the secrets they keep well hidden. She usually keeps this to herself until a young girl she knew from surf camp goes missing. Trin has a scary dream that locates where she and the killer, Rafe Stevens, are and the serious trouble the girl, Kori, is in. Though it's to late, Kori was already dead when they found her. Making Trin hide her power because she doesn't want the feeling of regret in herself any more than she wants someone killing her. So, when she has a dream about the killer a couple of years later she just thinks it a reaction to him getting released form jail a few weeks before. But when she begins to get physically harmed in her dreams and outside she realizes she needs help fast. Even if that means trusting the hot son of the guy who let Rafe go.

When I first picked up Sleepless I just expected a lite read that could last me until I went to the library in a couple or days. Instead, it turned out to one of the best books I have read in a while. Sleepless covered all the bases from mystery to romance to a funny cast of characters. Trinity was handled in a mature way with her being convinced that she had to stop the serial killer and not run away screaming like a little girl, getting everyone she loves hurt. Another thing I like about Trinity was how even though this was a serious situation she had a season wicked humour about it. Also, Terri made Coral and Trinity's mother in a way that they where nice and generous people, who didn't just walk away when Trin wasn't telling the full story. Plus, there was the Dan factor making this book a great read. The plot was completely resolved in the end with Trinity finally realizing she needed to use her power for good than not at all. Also, it had no loose ends that many books have these days. Terri Clark has created a first book showing she is beyond her years as a writer. I seriously hope she writes more about Trinity and her friends or just another compelling book.

If you enjoyed Wake by Lisa McMann, 1-800 Missing You or Mediator series by Meg Cabot. Then, Terri Clark's writing style in Sleepless will keep you turning the pages through the night making you sleepless like Trinity but in a completly different way.

Grade: A+
