October Lasts Forever
By Scott Nicholson
Cover #1 |
In an earlier blog tour stop, I talked about how I originally came up with the secret family pen name, because I thought people who liked my young-adult paranormal series might not try the books if they thought I as a “horror writer.” I can assure you, I’m not very horrible, and I quickly decided that I was just fine being L.C. Glazebrook and Scott Nicholson rolled into one. The books will keep the Glazebrook name, at least for a while, but having a series adds a whole new set of challenges.
But also a lot of opportunities for fun. The important thing to me is that I love the two main characters, teen witch Crystal and her dead best friend Bone. Crystal is your typical high school drop-out, overcoming the depression that set in when Bone was killed by a UPS van at age 16. Now she’s trying to get her GED and go to community college and deal with her boyfriend Pettigrew, who is a little too serious too fast.
Well, except there’s that part where she has to guard the portal to the afterlife.

I like cover # 2 best.
ReplyDeleteWhile I enjoy paranormals, I do feel as if there's been a bit too much of it recently. :-)
ReplyDeleteI do like those covers. Different that's for sure. The series sounds great!
ReplyDeleteI do like those covers. Different that's for sure. The series sounds great!
ReplyDelete#2 cover works best in my opinion. Better color and more intriguing.
ReplyDeletejenma76 at hotmail dot com
Ditto to Scorpio M's and Bibliophile's votes. Cover #2 does have the most vibrant color and the girl's expressions are more interesting. varbonoff 22 at cox dot net
ReplyDeleteI love Cover #2, it's probably the red. Studies have shown that red catches one's eye the most.
ReplyDeleteatomicxrawr@yahoo.com
I'm torn between covers #1 and #2. I think I'd give the slight edge to #2.
ReplyDelete-Neal
Yep, #2 would be my choice, too. Great colors and they match the first book in the series.
ReplyDelete"October Girls" is a lovely and interesting book. I look forward to the second part.
And because of the neat covers, these are the kind of books I would want in paperback as well.

(Little old lady, who loves both Kindle and paper. LOL.)
"Dead & Unfriended"--that's an interesting choice for a title...since it also happens to be your BIGGEST FEARS! Fearing death is a common fear. Being unfriended though continually haunts you. Oh my stars! You are such a Facebook whore! It's SHOCKING!
ReplyDeleteBut your fear of being "unfriended" is a valid one. You've already been "unfriended" by the Appalachian Goat Lovers Society Facebook page...and that has just DEVASTATED you! But you KNOW why you were unfriended...and I must say I am NOT surprised and I would also NOT be surprised if the Appalchian Goat Lovers Society did NOT take up legal action against...or get a restraining order at the very least (or do they already have one?). Common decency (and Facebook's privacy policy) prevent me from revealing just what sort of disgusting and sordid things occured to get you unfriended---but let's just say it was SHOCKING!!!!!
Other than that, congratulations on the new series. Best wishes with it. Gotta get ready for work...
CHEERS!
I think I like the second cover the best, too.
ReplyDeleteMargay1122(at)aol(dot)com
I think cover #2 is the best although I like the blue background of the other two.
ReplyDeleteAlso who doesn't love chocolate a lot? Of course the Judge would too!
bookworm1858 AT hotmail DOT com
#2 Does it for me as well! ;)
ReplyDeleteinannajourney at gmail dot com
Keep up the good work Scott!!
ReplyDeleteThe questionable judge who loves chocolate is probably Swiss. I'm sure he has one of those numbered accounts where he hides the money he gets from the estates of the dead. Heeeeh.
ReplyDeleteChrista
Scott, #3 but with larger tombstones!
ReplyDeletePaul

I'm going to go with Cover #1. And chocolate is easy! Everyone loves chocolate. lol
ReplyDeleteCount me in for a Kindle! :D
LaQuiet(at)gmail(dot)com
I vote for 2! Good luck with the rest of your series!
ReplyDeleteI love cover #2!

Since you brought the PC version of the kindle software to my attention, I just bought "October Girls" (obviously from you Scott) and "My name Is Joe" (from Stefan Bourque). My first two kindle titles even though I have to read them on the PC. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for mentioning the Kindle PC software yesterday and October Girls today!!
calseeor (at) gmail (dot) com
I like cover #3 best, I like the expressions on Crystal and Bone's face. My second choice would be #2. I dislike #1 -- it's too dark.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the contest,

Cover #2 gets my vote. Good luck.

Cover #2 for me!
ReplyDeleteMy daughter is very excited about the next book in the series, and she'll have her Kindle by then too - no more reading on her netbook!

ReplyDeleteeddiem11@ca.rr.com
#2 for me.
ReplyDeleteI will have to go with cover #2!
ReplyDeleteI like cover #3 more.
ReplyDeletechey127 at hotmail dot com
I think that cover #3 is definitely the best out of the three. I would suggest that the blue background be something other than just matte blue. Maybe a texture or picture frame or something like that.
ReplyDeleteHere's my vote for cover #2. Definitely my favorite.

I like cover #3. Crystal is much cuter and Bone still looks fun.
ReplyDeleteJeff White.... whitejw@ameritech.net
I think I like #3 the best...
ReplyDeletecandace_redinger at yahoo dot com
I like the first cover best, the one on top, because it goes along with the title a bit better. The bottom one seems a little too friendly.
ReplyDeleteWakincade AT gmail DOT com
Voted over here and my boyfriend I both like #2 the best.
ReplyDeletejlynettes @ hotmail . com
i bought one! spvaughan@yahoo.com
ReplyDeleteThanks, everyone--we'll talk all these over with the "staff." Art is by the wonderful Ludeshka, a well-known Argentine artist. I agree paranromal is overdone, but i don't think there is anything quite like this series--trailer-trash magic.
ReplyDelete@Eric I am honored to be among your first! @Thanks Sandra and Lorraine, now I need to get to work on that next one (I have only written a little...)
Scott
I like cover #3 the best. It's the "cutest" of the three and the more enticing illustration. Also, the characters seeming more engaging.
ReplyDelete#2 cover works best in my opinion.
ReplyDeletecjwallace43 at gmail dot com
Cover #2 :)

ReplyDeleteI like cover #2
ReplyDeletestephanie(.)pridgen(@)gmail(.)com
Cover #2 gets my vote. It is not as "dark" as #1, yet still gives a hint of that aspect of the story. #3 seems to hide it completely.

First of all, the book sounds really cool; something my Not-So-Bebe-Girl Autumn (and, later, myself, on the sly) would enjoy. I really like cover #2 best. I think the contrast is more eye catching and the colors sort of pop!

I'm torn between #1 and #2. I like the darkness on 1, but the vibrant colors really pop on the second one. I'm going to pick two because of the way the hair and flowers are defined.
ReplyDeletelenikaye@yahoo.com
Of the covers shown, my fave is #2. Vibrant and gloomy at the same time.

I like both cover #2 and #3, but I like cover #2 best.
ReplyDeletedekad1(at)hotmail(dot)com
I like Cover #2 the best, but when the dead part comes into play, the colors of Cover #1 fit the title better. It must feel a bit "exciting" writing a series when you don't know all the details or where it is going. You must like to live dangerously, or just like a little literary excitement. More power to you.

ReplyDeleteAnother great post Scott.

If "author branding" is still as important now as in the pre-digital days, pseudonyms for different genres are probably a good idea.
