Review:

Summary:

Thirteen-year-old Kyra has grown up in an isolated polygamous community without questioning her father’s three wives and her twenty brothers and sisters. Or at least without questioning them much—if you don’t count her secret visits to the Mobile Library on Wheels to read forbidden books, or her meetings with the boy she hopes to choose for herself instead of having a man chosen for her. But when the Prophet decrees that Kyra must marry her 60-year-old uncle—who already has six wives—Kyra must make a desperate choice in the face of violence and her own fears of losing her family.

Review:

The Chosen One by Carol Lynch Williams was one of the most compelling and riveting books of the month of May, if not the year!

As soon as you hit page two, you are thrown into Kyra’s crazy life as part of a highly religious polygamist family. I was simply amazed at the polygamist's life styles, which included how cruel the high officials of this group were to the woman and children. All the time, I was rooting for Kyra to finally be free of the hating people and the man she must marry, her sixty year old uncle.

Kyra was an extremely strong character, one that you were in compete awe of how brave she was. I could feel her fears and love for her family jump off the page at all times. Krya was also someone that you could relate to, even if you are not a polygamist or mormon. Lastly, Carol crafted Krya's sisters and mothers in a way you could understand their frustration with all of this, even though the main focus was on Krya.

Carol Lynch Williams writing was another strong point of this novel. The story flowed extremely well and the ending was in a way that you could feel hope for Kyra..

Overall, The Chosen One is one book that should be in all teens hands, because it is truly a novel that will leave you breathless and wondering about the different topics at hand.
