Secret Society by Tom Dolby

Summary:

An eccentric new girl. A brooding socialite. The scion of one of New York’s wealthiest families. A promising filmmaker. As students at the exclusive Chadwick School, Phoebe, Lauren, Nick, and Patch already live in a world most teenagers only dream about.

They didn’t ask to be Society members. But when three of them receive a mysterious text message promising success and fame beyond belief, they say yes to everything. Even to the harrowing initiation ceremony in a gritty warehouse downtown, and to the ankh-shaped tattoo they’re forced to get on the nape of their necks. Once they’re part of the Society, things begin falling into place for them. Week after week, their ambitions are fulfilled. It’s all perfect—until a body is found in Central Park with no distinguishing marks except for an ankh-shaped tattoo.( from Harper Collins Catalogs)

Review:

Secret Society
was a mysterious and alluring novel set in the confusing world of secret societies in New York City.

The plot was addicting and well done. Since, you constantly had curve balls thrown at you that you didn't see coming ( missing people, dead people, ex.). Tom Dolby really went above the limit in writing a fantastic mystery.

Patch, Lauren, Phoebe, and Nick were a set of three dimensional characters that fears to ambitions were all in arms reach to you. Though, with the writing style used ( third person) you sometimes didn't really get to know them, because the point of views were constantly changing.

One of my favorite parts of this Secret Society was the focus on the main Secret Society that the teens belonged too. I was constantly stunned at the way the group, or cult as it seemed at times, worked. Also, I loved reading the back story behind the society, making it an overall fast read. My only problem? I felt that even though you found out a lot about how it worked to how it began you still didn't really get all the info about it. Though, hopefully, some of my burning questions will be answered in a possible sequel.

Overall, I think we may possibly have a future bestseller in Secret Society. If not because of the mystery, but because of romance and likable characters. I look forward to reading more by Dolby, especially a sequel to this spectacular book!

I suggest this to fans of the Pretty Little Liars and Private series who looking for another quick and fast read.

Grade: A-

Secret Society will be released September 29, 2009.
