Meridian by Amber Kizer

Summary:

Half-human, half-angel, Meridian Sozu has a dark responsibility.

Sixteen-year-old Meridian has been surrounded by death ever since she can remember. As a child, insects, mice, and salamanders would burrow into her bedclothes and die. At her elementary school, she was blamed for a classmate’s tragic accident. And on her sixteenth birthday, a car crashes in front of her family home—and Meridian’s body explodes in pain.

Before she can fully recover, Meridian is told that she’s a danger to her family and hustled off to her great-aunt’s house in Revelation, Colorado. It’s there that she learns that she is a Fenestra—the half-angel, half-human link between the living and the dead. But Meridian and her sworn protector and love, Tens, face great danger from the Aternocti, a band of dark forces who capture vulnerable souls on the brink of death and cause chaos.

Review:

Meridian is one delightful and thrilling read filled with a solid plot and great characters.

From the start, I became immersed in life of Meridian Sozu. She was an interesting main character and an easy character to like. One that teens could relate to because of her wanting to find out who she is and become someone who was going to make a difference in the lives of the past Fenestras.

Talking about the Fenestras, I loved the history Amber created for them. Since, it was always fun to see what they could do and how they could pass souls of the dying to the ever after. Though, I would have liked to see more of the diary entries of past Fenestras featured in the book. Hopefully, I'll be able to find more out when reading the companion book which is supposedly coming out within the next year.

Amber's writing was also addicting and fast paced, making Meridian a book that I finished in one sitting. Though, I felt that towards the end, that sequence after sequence of exciting action went by too nicely and without a big effect or fight, but it didn't really bother me that much.

Lastly, as also mentioned above, I enjoyed reading about Meridian, as well as Meridian's Auntie ( I loved hearing about her past with Charles) and Tens who sounded like he would be an amazing guy in real life. Also, I did love the bond that Meridian and Tens had, because it was quite clear that they would go to the end of the world to protect each other which made them such a cute couple.

Overall, Meridian was a fantastic read, one that I couldn't get enough of. I can't wait to read the sequel!

Grade: A-/ B+
