Top Ten Bookish Confessions

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and The Bookish.

Top Ten Bookish Confessions

1) My Feelings on Classics

When I first started to become the bookworm I now am, my mother thought I should start reading all the different classics out there...Pride and Prejudice, Wuthering Heights, etc. While I did want to read them and could understand the importance of them, I just couldn't get through them at all. I have enjoyed some I've read, but for the most part, I'm just really not the biggest fan of Classics...thus why I'm never ever going to become an English major in college.

2) When I go to the Library I always have to get at least one book...

I have a lot of books (review books, bought books, ebooks, etc.) to read, so going into the library, I honestly do know I'm not going to have the time to read any of the ones I picked out. But still, I always end up walking out with at least one, or two, or maybe ten...all because under the excuse of "I'm supporting the library!" and then they just sit and collect dust. It's sad but it's a habit.

3) Adding to the library one...

I never know when books are due, and it's not like the library has some mysterious, hardcore system determining how long items can go out, but still I end up with fines more times then I'd like to admit...but again, I'm SUPPORTING the library...with my forgetfulness but still ;)

4) I'm starting to prefer ebooks over real books...

I hate to admit it but it's true....there's just something so fabulous about reading on my iPad, and while I still love regular books, ebooks are starting to win my heart over :(

5) If I think you should read a book, I won't shut up about it...

When I really like a book, I will go on and on about it, and then when this happens,  I demand that every person I know (whether they hate reading or not) reads it...just ask my friends. But the thing is even though I have to harass them into reading the said books, they always end up loving them so therefore, I must have great taste haha

6) Whenever I see a bookstore...

I have to go in, but that's just a booklover rule, in my opinion. My family, though, hates this because I then drag them into the said bookstore and I'm like "ooh, I want this one and this one and this one" and they're like "Lauren, you already have enough books at home" Then there's the times where I critique a store's book selection, but that's a different story all together...

7) I envy people who take the time to write notes and little thoughts in the books they read...

I've always wanted to be one of those people who would highlight stuff in the books I read and write little notes in the margins, because seriously, how cool is that? But I can never bring myself to do it...

8) I have no organizational system...

I've tried to organize my books before (series on one shelf, paperbacks on another, etc.) but it always ends up falling apart and books end up all over the place. Though, the thing is I kind of prefer it this way... However, on the other hand, if I notice books out of order at the store or library, I will fix it, because it drives me crazy.

9) I consantly leave books lying open...

It's a really bad habit because it runs the book's spine but I always forget until it's too late

10) Never Ever Tell Me You Don't Like Reading...

becasue it will bring out my "No, you do like reading, you just don't like the books your reading speech" and then it will start me on my "Schools ruin kids love of reading" speech and trust me, no one wants to hear that :)

Sooo you know my Top Ten Bookish Confessions now, but what are yours? Any of the ones I listed above? Let me know below and feel free to link to your posts as well!

  1. Lol your first one is perfect. I agree, I'm not a classics reader at all. I read Pride and Prejudice and I like the movie better, I had a lot of issues understanding what the heck was going on the whole thing with ____shire freaking weird.

I have the same issue with bookstores. You should come to Seattle and do a half price book run. It is so much fun 4 bookstores in one long day, freaking awesome. And we could also add UW and 3rd Place books as well. Love all those stores. IT is so terrible, when ever I'm in Seattle I have to stop at one of the bookstores. My husband doesn't like bookstores, very sad to say, but he indulges my book loving addiction very well.

  2. Great confessions! I'm with you on not being able to leave the library without checking something out - even if it's just a quick trip to drop off returned items! I also don't have an organization system for my books - they're stacked in the bookcase willy-nilly. Thanks for sharing!

  3. I'm a total book magnet. Even if I'm not in a library [mine has great book sales!] or a book store I can find a book section. Some inner GPS thing or something and I have to scout it out. And usually, if I can manage it with my budget, buy at least one book. I can't stand to leave them there, especially if it sounds or looks awesome. :]
