After a difficult few years, Tilly Adams is ready for life to start going right. Though she has a case of first-day nerves teaching art at the local community college, she knows it isn’t anything a few snuggles from her rescue puppy won’t cure. Until she sees Dylan Scott again, her one-time BFF and first love sitting in the front row. Dylan knows he should’ve left well enough alone, but when he sees Tilly living her dream, he can’t help but make contact. Ten years ago, he left Wildstone and everything in it behind, including Tilly. He had his reasons, but now he wants her back in his life, anyway he can get her. When Tilly agrees to design the logo for Dylan’s new helicopter touring company, it’s business only . . . until she finds herself falling into his arms once again. Can she possibly open her heart back up to the only man who’s ever broken it? But soon they’re both realizing the truth—love always deserves a second chance.
Review:
Jill Shalvis is quickly becoming one of my go-to romance writers. Her romances are always sweet and swoony. Plus it doesn't hurt that her books always seem to include some adorable animals.
The Good Luck Sister is actually book 1.5 in the Wildstone series. While I haven't read the first book in the series, I had absolutely no problem following along. It's usually easy to immerse yourself in Jill's books no matter where you start, and luckily, that applied here as well.
The Good Luck Sister features one of my favorite types of romance - a second chance! It's been years since Tilly and Dylan have seen each other, and when their paths finally do cross, it's messy, hilarious, and incredibly awkward. There was so much tension and chemistry in that first meet-up! I loved it, and it made me want to know what happened between them even more.
As the book progresses, Jill includes snippets from their past along with the dual perspectives, and I found it to be a wonderful mix. It was fun to see from both Dylan and Tilly's perspectives while also seeing how their friendship turned into something more back in high school. Tilly was by far my favorite character. Like usual, Jill has presented a sassy, strong, and gutsy women with Tilly's character. I could completely relate to her "act-now-ask-questions" personality - I tend to fall into the same pattern when I get upset as well. I also loved seeing her gain confidence in her art and work once again. It was awesome to see her succeed in her career. Dylan was also lovable. Honestly, I think he may just be my favorite Shalvis hero yet. Just like Tilly, he was gutsy and determined, and he also was an act-now kind of guy, which made for some intense scenes. Together, Tilly and Dylan were an adorable couple, and while The Good Luck Sister is novella-length (a little over 100 pages), their relationship was sturdy and believable. It was easy to see that there where meant to be, even when they failed to see it themselves.
The secondary characters here were also fantastic. Dylan's friends were hilariously crass. I loved when they gave him a hard time. Tilly's sister was also laugh-out-loud funny. My next mission is to read her story - I need more of her antics in my life. And last but not least, Leo, Tilly's cuteyet incredibly naughty dog. The opening scene was what first grabbed my attention, thanks to Tilly's antics. Who knew a dog could be so conniving? I'm still laughing thinking about it!
In all, The Good Luck Sister is another short yet endearing book from Jill Shalvis. 100% recommended!
