Pete and Annabelle live for their summers together on Gingerbread Beach. They've always believed they were a perfect pair… until junior year, when Annabelle becomes obsessed with astrology. Now they can hardly stand each other. Pete thinks that Annabelle (a Leo) has become a total flake; Annabelle thinks Pete (a Scorpio) has become an uptight jerk.Review:
When Annabelle dares Pete to open a summer business on the Boardwalk generating personalized horoscopes, their fast-paced, hilarious bickering soon rises to a fever pitch. The he-said/she-said advice of the Star Shack is wildly popular and seems able to fix any relationship problem… except their own.
But when one of Annabelle's star charts helps catch a thief, Pete might have to admit that the stars could really hold the key to the future… and to his own heart.
Ever since I first heard about The Star Shack I've been dying to read it. Since I loved the idea of mixing together romance, two different views about astrology, and an astrology based business; I mean does that or does that not make for purse awesome ? I certainly think it does! Luckily, The Star Shack proved to be an absolute delight to read!
I adored the two main characters, Annabelle and Pete, and the fact that you get to see from both point of views even more so. Both characters were funny, sweet, and felt 100% real making it easy to relate to them. I also liked the fact that they had chemistry, which is something you don't always see between two characters that are romantically involved in YA!
While the beginning was a bit dry as the story continued it kept getting better and better to a point were I was running through the pages, dying to find out what would happen next. Would Annabelle and Pete end up together? Would Pete see the light in astrology? All were questions swirling around in my head and ones that will probably be in yours if you give this book a chance! Plus, the premise was fun and light making it, in my opinion, the perfect beach read for Summer 2010, and adding to this, the astrology part of this was also great, which I do have to admit I was surprised to see.
As said before, The Star Shack is without a doubt the prefect beach read for Summer 2010! I assure you that you won't be the least disappointed in this exciting story and looking forward to read more by Castle in the end.
Grade: B+
The Star Shack will be released June 1, 2010!

Wow awesome review Lauren! This was my waiting on Wednesday a couple of weeks ago. It sounds like a perfect summer read, I can't wait! I'm glad you enjoyed it :)
ReplyDeleteSounds like a great beach read! I remember taking a great interest in Astrology for a short while when I was younger but not in the same degree as Annbelle here. Lovely review, Lauren :)
ReplyDeleteThis does seem like a light, fun read. I'm also interested in the premise of astrology.
ReplyDeleteGreat review! I've had this book on my wishlist a while, but I think this is the first review I've seen of the book. And it looks like it's living up to it's great synopsis! Moving it higher up on my wishlist ;)
ReplyDeleteNice review!!! I'm currently reading a book that starts out dry, but becomes really good as it moves into the middle.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds really good and summery - will definitely hunt this one down!
ReplyDeleteIt's fascinating to think about a character obsessed with astrology. It's that character quirk that adds to the story telling.
ReplyDeleteOoh, a beach read! I love me my beach reads!
ReplyDeleteFantastic review! It's great how you get to read from both point of views. The plot also sounds addicting - I can totally relate to you when you say you were speeding through the book. I've experienced that many times!
ReplyDeleteVery nice review! I saw this book before but I wasn't sure if it was worth getting or not. You convinced me, I really think I'm buying this when it comes out. I love the thought of romance and astrology put together!
