Blog Tour: Twisted Perfection by Abbi Glines (Review!)

Click to view all the stops on the tour!
Today, as part of the blog tour for Abbi Glines's Twisted Perfection, I have a review for the book. So without a further ado...

Summary/Cover Image from Author's Website:
Life outside of her house was a new experience for Della Sloane. The dark secrets of her past weren’t something she ever intended to share with anyone. They would never understand. No one would ever get close enough to find out. There was always a chance she’d go crazy sooner than they expected…

Woods Kerrington had never been one to be attracted to fragile females. They seemed like too much work. He wasn’t in it for the work just the pleasure. A night full of naughty fun had been exactly what was on his mind when he’d laid eyes on the hot little number that didn’t know how to pump gas and needed some help.

What he didn’t know was she was as fragile as they came.
The carefree girl who spoke her mind and didn’t care what the world thought of her was more breakable than he could ever imagine…
Review:

Ever since Woods Kerrington was introduced in Fallen Too Far, I've been secretly obsessed with him. There's just something so sexy and compelling about him. I always loved when he made an appearance in a scene. Therefore, when Abbi announced she would be writing a book about Woods, I was SO EXCITED. I couldn't wait to get a look into his head and -more importantly- to see him finally fall in love! Luckily, Twisted Perfection was everything I had hoped it would be and much, much more!

Twisted Perfection tells the story of Woods and Della. While it appears on the surface that Woods have everything he could possibly ever want, he's slowly falling apart on the inside. He can't stand the girl his father has matched up with, and he can't stand the fact that his father is asking him to risk his own happiness just for some more money and power. Della, on the other hand, is running from her past. She needs a break, an escape. So when she meets Woods one night at a gas station, he seems like the perfect person to get that break with. It's a perfect night, but as it goes, all good things must come to an end, and they do. However, what happens when Della shows back up in Woods's world again? Will everything work out, or get even more screwed up then before? Only time and more pages can tell!

The number one thing I always love about Abbi's books besides the kick ass and swoon worthy romance is the characters, and that was just the case with this one. As mentioned before, I feel in love with Woods in Abbi's previous books, and that love was only increased with this one. He's such a great guy. I loved the way he was with Della, and even though he wasn't always perfect, it made me like him all the more. Della was an interesting character as well. Just like with some of Abbi's other leading ladies, Della has a tragic past, one that really managed to screw her up. However, she didn't let this get her down. Instead, she managed to really shine and come across as an all around great person that I couldn't help but root for. I especially loved seeing her become her own person thanks to Woods's influence. I also enjoyed seeing some of Abbi's past characters pop up as well as the new additions she made.

The plot in this one was Abbi's usual set-up, but I still adored it! I loved the romance between Woods and Della. It was super hot and steamy. Plus I loved seeing Abbi peace together Della's past. It was such a compelling aspect of the book, and I never really knew what new piece was going to be introduced next.

In all, Twisted Perfection is yet another romantic and thrilling book by Abbi Glines, and even though the ending is KILLER, I'm certainly tuning into to Abbi's future books (especially Simple Perfection!)

Today, I'm happy to take part in the Hell's Hollow book blitz hosted by Xpresso Book Tours.

So without a further ado...

Hell's Hollow by Summer Stone
When Seraphina was younger, she healed her best friend's injured hand. Terrified by the inexplicable cure, the girl shunned her. From that day on, Seraphina found herself without friends, a freak and an oddity. And so she obeyed her mother’s rule to refrain from using her innate ability, heeded her mother's warning that its use could land her in the local mental health facility alongside her aunt and grandmother.

But when sixteen-year-old Seraphina finds a mysterious, wounded boy hiding in the hollow in the woods behind her house, she can't hold out against the overpowering urge to help him. She is drawn to him each night, and as they come to know one another, their irresistible attraction blooms.

She longs to uncover his secrets — where he comes from and why he's hiding and how he came to be so wounded — and to share her own, though she knows it's forbidden. And while her healing touch seems to be helping him, it's hurting her. When the symptoms of psychosis — experienced by the women in her bloodline who used their powers — begin to plague Seraphina, she is faced with the unbearable choice of saving her sanity or the boy she’s come to love.

Bitter Angel by Megan Hand (Excerpt and Giveaway!)

As part of the release week event for Megan Hand's Bitter Angel, I have an excerpt from the book as well as a giveaway for an eBook copy. So without a further ado...

The Excerpt:

As Nilah hooted and woohooed, it took less than a minute for her Infiniti G35 to reach illegal speeds. Her hollering was a painful side effect of her birthday high. If she weren’t driving, she’d have probably stuck her head out the window and let her ears flap in the wind. From the front passenger seat, Heather was blowing on her French manicure, even though her nails were way past dry.

I leaned forward from the back, an elbow on each of their seats. “Where is this place again?”

“We went there once,” Nilah reminded me. “It’s near that Fourth Street Park place we went to last time, but we’re going to dinner as soon as we get into town. I made reservations at the most expensive seafood place I could find.”

Grimacing, I sank back into the plush, heated leather. I’d never been a very big seafood fan, but it was Nilah’s birthday. Her day, her rules. We’d always had that tradition for our birthdays—we got to pick where we ate, what we did, and go wherever we wanted on our special day.

I sighed, already missing Jay. At that moment, I began to daydream that I was clawing my way out of the car, curling into a ball, and rolling to a stop on the concrete. Then, magically uninjured of course, I’d race back to him.

When I came to my senses, however, I was overcome with a very strange sensation. Like I didn’t have to imagine it.

Because I was still with him.

About the Book:
Torn between two realities.
A choice that will mean life or death.
She won’t know anything… until she wakes up.

College sophomore, Lila Spencer lived Friday night twice. She doesn’t know how or why, just that she did. As if she split in half and went in two different directions.

Out clubbing with her friends, Heather and Nilah, the girls rock it out and party hard. What begins as an innocent night will lead to a deadly fight for their lives, and Lila might be their only chance for survival.

In bed with her boyfriend, Jay, Lila is safe and warm as she drifts to sleep in the arms of the man she loves. Until she is sucked into a horrifying nightmare of her friends’ deaths.

As the sunlight warms her face on Saturday morning, the two scenarios collide. But there can be only one outcome. Will she wake up in her warm bed with Jay by her side, devastated and grieving for her friends? Or was she there to save them?

The answer is just the beginning.
About the Author:
At twelve, Megan decided to write a novel. A month later, she quit. A reading junkie by nature, she started writing again in her twenties as a way to get the voices out, because who wouldn't want to create a Real Living Person out of thin air? Megan also plays the piano and sings. She teaches little kids and takes pictures of pretty butterflies. She eats way too much chocolate, is sort of a mad scientist with her blender, and spends an unhealthy amount of time LOLing on Facebook and Twitter. She lives in Ohio with her husband and very smiley son. Bitter Angel is her first published novel.

Review: The Best of Us by Sarah Pekkanen

Summary/Cover Image from Publisher's Website:
An all-expense-paid week at a luxury villa in Jamaica—it’s the invitation of a lifetime for a group of old college friends. All four women are desperate not just for a reunion, but for an escape: Tina is drowning under the demands of mothering four young children. Allie is shattered by the news that a genetic illness runs in her family. Savannah is carrying the secret of her husband’s infidelity. And, finally, there’s Pauline, who spares no expense to throw her wealthy husband an unforgettable thirty-fifth birthday celebration, hoping it will gloss over the cracks already splitting apart their new marriage.

Languid hours on a private beach, gourmet dinners, and late nights of drinking kick off an idyllic week for the women and their husbands. But as a powerful hurricane bears down on the island, turmoil swirls inside the villa, forcing each of the women to reevaluate everything she knows about her friends—and herself.
Review:

After reading the heartbreaking yet spectacular Skipping a Beat, Sarah's sophomore novel, I have been determined to read more by her. However, I didn't get around to it until recently when The Best of Us, her newest book, ended up in my hands. Thankfully, The Best of Us was an amazing and well crafted tale that brought laughs as well as tears and pulled on my heartstrings constantly. So basically, I'm now beating myself up for not reading more by her sooner!

The Best of Us tells the story of four women, three friends since college and one newcomer, who are brought together for a friend's lavish, week long birthday celebration in Jamaica. For Tina, the trip means finally getting a break from her adorable but exhausting children and getting closer to her husband Gio. Allie, on the other hand, hopes the trip will put her mind at ease at a recent and shocking revelation, one that may change everything for her and her precious family. Savannah, a soon to be divorcee, hopes the trip will also provide distraction... from her impending divorce and the feelings she still feels toward her husband. Last but not least, Pauline, the organizer of the party and wife of the man who the party is for, hopes this celebration will serve as a way to get to know her husband's friends among other things. What will happen to each of these women and their husbands? Only time and more pages will tell in this shocking and page-turning tale that will have any reader dying to know what will happen next.

As mentioned before, I'm always a little hesitant to begin books that are told from multiple POVs. However, I'm happy to report this tactic worked quite well for The Best of Us. Sarah did a great job of digging into each women's lives and bringing their unique voices to life. I felt that each was well developed, and truthfully, I came to root and like every one of them....even though they did all have their moments. What I liked most about Allie, Tina, Pauline, and Savannah, though, was that they were just average, ordinary women, trying to make it in this world. Each was faced with hard and sometimes deadly problems within the book (from tumultuous diseases to marriage problems to stay-at-home-mom blues) and the solution to them weren't always easy and cookie-cutter clean. Instead, it took work and some mistakes to make things work, which made The Best of Us even better, in my opinion.

Moving on, I really enjoyed the plot in this one as well. I'm always happy to read contemporary, especially when tropical vacations are involved. Like I said above, the book had a lot to do with each woman and her problems, and this really kept the book moving along. I was constantly dying to know what would occur next. Like whether or not Savannah would end up back with her husband, or what exactly Allie was facing. Plus I especially enjoyed the little twists and turns introduced half way through. One in particular really managed to shock me, but I won't say any more about that.

Sarah's writing was also fantastic. She did a great job of developing each character and keeping the book moving. However, at times, I did feel that the book was occasionally a little stilted, especially at first when everything was setting up.

In all, The Best of Us is an enjoyable new addition to the adult contemporary genre, and while I didn't enjoy it as much as Skipping a Beat, it's still something I highly suggest. I can't wait to see what Sarah has up next!

Grade: A-
