Blog Tour: Masked Possession by Alana Delacroix (Review & Giveaway!)

Summary/Cover Image from Publisher's Website:
A Man Who Can Wear Any Face

Caro Yeats doesn’t run from much. As a former investigative reporter now working PR for Toronto’s supernaturals, what she hasn’t seen mostly isn’t worth seeing. But the assignment to “rebrand” Eric Kelton’s out-of-control alter egos has her on edge from the start. Kelton is the heirarch of the Masquerada, beings able to change their face—their entire persona—on a whim. Eric’s charisma muddles her instincts. How can she trust a man who can become anybody?

A Woman Without A Past

Eric has never met anyone like Caro, with her lightning wit and uncanny insight. But desirable as she is, he’d be a fool to let her near. Struggling to hide the sudden loss of his powers, Eric can’t risk becoming entangled with a woman who scorns her supernatural side and claims not to play politics. The enemies on her trail are strong, clever, and vicious. And when they force Eric and Caro together, the fallout could shatter far more than two hearts . . .
Review:

Sometimes I just need a good paranormal book to balance out all the contemporary and romance I read so when Alana Delacroix's  Masked Possession, the first in a new adult paranormal series, came to my attention I knew I had to read it.

Masked Possession turned out to be a fast paced and unique take on the supernatural world, and while it didn't completely win my heart, I still had a fun time reading it.

One of the aspects I liked the most about Masked Possession was the premise. A PR firm working for Toronto's paranormal? Now that's something unique and different! The execution of this idea was relatively good. I enjoyed seeing the office dynamic between Caro and her fellow coworkers. It was interesting that compared to the rest of the company Caro didn't seem to have any supernatural powers. However, rather then feel left out, Caro still was a kick-a$$ employee, and I admired that about her. I also liked seeing how Caro dealt with Eric/Masquerada case. It was fun seeing the different ways she went about "fixing" and rebranding Eric - she was a much, much tamer supernatural-dealing Olivia Pope. However, the one thing I wish there had been more of in the plot? CASES! The only real case dealt with his Eric's, and while yes, I did enjoy that, I wish we would have seen Caro and the team take on some other types of supernatural with bad PR...it would've spiced things up a bit!

Caro and Eric were characters I enjoyed for the most part. Caro was fierce and bold, and while sometimes her unwillingness to open up, made me want to scream - especially when she was putting herself and others in danger - I did understand why she didn't want to reopen that part of her life. Eric, on the other hand, was confident and bold; however, he was at a crossroads of sorts, torn between the benefits his many Masquerada and the consequences and dangers they were slowly putting into his life. It was interesting to see that specific personal struggle dealt with over the course of the book. However, I did have two problems with Eric and Caro. For one, I didn't feel always feel the connection and chemistry between them. They were was just a certain spark missing there. It seemed more like a romance of convenience then a romance of passion, and that bummed me out at times. My second problem was more of a personal problem - I just couldn't completely connect with the characters. Sure, I liked them, but I never truly related or felt 100% dedicated to their story.

While there seemed to be a certain "spark" missing that would've made this read completely addictive in my eyes, Masked Possession is a book I'm sure paranormal and urban fantasy readers will enjoy!
