Blog Tour: My Image of You by Melanie Moreland

Summary/ Cover Image from Publisher's Website:
She was the first good thing that ever happened to me. The only person who made me want to stay put. Until she disappeared. My name is Adam Kincaid, and I’m the most daring freelance photographer in the world. Or, at least, I used to be. After losing my parents way too young, I hid behind a camera lens—and discovered a talent that took me all over the planet. No assignment was too dangerous, no location too remote, no subject too painful.

Then came the accident, and the hospital, where I met her: Alexandra Robbins. My nurse. My savior. With her fiery red hair and crystal-clear blue eyes, the most striking woman I could’ve imagined—and the kindest too. How could such a big personality fit into such a petite package? But she was running from something too, something I never had: her family. She thought she’d escaped their control. But she was wrong. And now they’ve taken her away from me.

Today is her engagement party. I may not get an explanation, but I’ll be damned if I don’t get a photograph. A picture really is worth a thousand words. And just like love, it never fades away.

Review:

After reading Melanie Moreland's The Contract and The Baby Clause back in August, I've been dying to read another book by her. So when I learned about My Image of You, her new book for Fall 2017, I eagerly added it to my wish list and began the countdown to its release date.

As it turns out, My Image of You was compelling, romantic, and fast paced, and while I didn't love Adam and Alexandra's adventures nearly as much as I loved Katharine and Richard's adventures (they're an incredibly hard act to beat, what can I say), My Image of You was still a solid romance read.

My Image of You is primarily told in Adam's POV. I really enjoyed getting to know him through his chapters. He was kind as well as caring, but I especially loved the touch of danger and recklessness he had to him. I find the job of a freelance photographer - especially one who focus on natural disasters and tragedy - so incredibly intriguing. Therefore, I loved that his job was such a big part of the book. I also found his conflict between pursing his passions by going to these remote and dangerous locations and becoming a family man and staying closer to safe and known areas realistic as well as slightly suspenseful. It's a hard choice to make, in my opinion, and I thought Melanie did a great job of presenting Adam's back-and-forth on the issue as well as presenting it in a way that perfectly intertwined it into the overall picture of Adam and Alexandra's relationship.

Now, on to Alexandra. I have to admit: I could not connect to her. I think this was largely due to the fact that so little of the book was told in her POV. I feel like knowing her thoughts would not have only made her actions more understandable but also would've added that depth to her character that I craved. However, I did like her and root for her just the same. She was a girl who always received the short stick in life, and there was nothing I wanted more for her then for her to find the home and family she deserved.

The plot in My Image of You is split between two time periods: Alexandra and Adam's romance until they're torn apart and then Adam's journey to win Alexandra back. I thought Melanie did a great job of fleshing out both sides of the story. Adam and Alexandra's relationship was well developed and likable so much in fact that I could almost forgive the insta-love feeing that came with it at times. I also liked the feeling of suspense that the middle of the book brought, as you know that Alexandra and Adam are not together when the book starts but you don't know why exactly. It was exciting to try to guess what exactly had happened, and the end result was certainly something I didn't see coming!

In all, My Image of You is perfect read for a weekend. I honestly think I would've liked it better had I not read The Contract first (has that ever happened to you all with books?); however, I still throughly enjoyed it overall. I can't wait to see what Melanie comes up with next!

EXCERPT:

“You don’t expect me to sleep in your room,” she stated, sounding relieved.
I smirked at her uncertainty. “Miss Elliott, this is a business arrangement. Outside these walls, we will appear as a couple. We’ll hold hands, stay close, do whatever other couples do who are in love.” I waved my hand in the air. “In here, we are real. You have your space; I have mine. I won’t bother you. I expect nothing from you.” I couldn’t help the dry chuckle that escaped. “You didn’t really think I’d want to sleep with you, did you?”
Her head snapped up, and she glared at me. “No more than I’d want to sleep with you, Mr. VanRyan.” Turning on her heel, she marched down the hall, her footsteps small thumps on the hardwood floor.
I followed her, still smirking. When we reached the living room, she whirled around, her eyes flashing.
“You asked me to do this, Mr. VanRyan. Not the other way around.”
“You agreed.”
She crossed her arms, anger pouring off her body. “I’m doing this, because at the moment, I have no other choice. Your decisions have directly affected my life, and I’m trying to keep up. I hate lying, and I’m not a good actress.”
“What are you saying?”
“If you’re not even going to attempt to be polite, or at least be a decent human being, this isn’t going to work. I can’t turn off my emotions that quickly.”
I pulled on my stubborn cowlick in vexation. “What do you want from me, Miss Elliott?”
“Could we not at least try to get along? Surely we can find something we have in common and engage in a conversation without your veiled insults and holier-than-thou attitude.”
A grin tugged at my lips. I was catching another glimpse of the backbone in Miss Elliott.
I tilted my head. “I apologize. I’ll try to do better. Is there anything else you want since we’re putting everything on the table?”
She hesitated, her fingers worrying the ugly shirt she wore.
“Spit it out.”
“You can’t, um, you can’t mess around while we’re doing . . . while we’re together.”
“Mess around?”
She looked everywhere but at me. “You can’t sleep with other women. I won’t be humiliated like that.”
“So what you’re saying is: I can’t f**k anyone?”
Her cheeks were so red I thought her head would explode; however, she straightened her shoulders and looked right at me. “Yes.”
This was too fun for me.
“Yes, I can f**k around?”
“No!”
“No f*****g,” I enunciated the last word.
“No.”
“You expect me to remain celibate the whole time?” I asked, now incredulous.
“I will be, so I expect you to do the same.”
I snorted. “I doubt it’s anything new for you.”
She threw up her hands. “That’s it. You want to f**k someone? Go f**k yourself, VanRyan.”

The Contract (The Contract, #1)

Review:

Romance is slowly becoming one of my favorite genres so when I caught wind of Melanie Moreland's The Contract I couldn't resist! It sounded amazing. Plus it contained one of my favorite types of romance - fauxmance turned real. Luckily, The Contract managed to be the perfect rainy day read. Steamy & fast paced, The Contract was a book I easily devoured on one rainy afternoon!

Richard VanRyan and Katharine Elliott may work together but it doesn't mean they have to like each other. Richard thinks Katherine is too perfect, too sweet, and far too complacent for his liking. Katy thinks Richard is arrogant and bossy - he's even made her cry on occasion. No matter how hard Richard's tried to get rid of Katy, it never works - he's stuck with her - and no matter how mad Katy gets over Richard's action, she can't give up her well paying job- she's stuck with him. Everything changes, though, the moment Richard asks her to be his fake fiancé. Katy baulks at the idea, thinking he's truly lost his mind. How could they - two people who utterly hate each other - lovingly interact? Then he offers her a salary increase - over double what she's currently making - and Katy simply can't refuse. She needs the money. However, what they haven't bet on is that this, this crazy, ridiculous contract, could ever turn into something real...

There was so much to love about this book; however, one of my absolute favorite parts was the characters!

At first, I couldn't stand Richard. He was rude and mean, just a huge jerk. I couldn't stand the way he treated Katy or the way he treated really anyone. However, as the book progressed, I really came to love him. I began to understand why he was the way he was. He also goes from being someone who never listens to others or considers their feelings to someone who will do let a friend stay over when their scared or bring food to an old lady and her pet parrot. I truly enjoyed seeing this transformation occur. As they say, finding love can sometimes bring out the best in you. I also liked seeing how good he was at his job. It was always fun to experience him "in the moment," thinking of some new way to make an ad campaign even better.

Katy, on the other hand, I loved from the first page. She was the perfect amount of sweet and kind. I admired and respected how far she would go to take care of the ones she loved - even if it meant making sacrifices. There was just so much good to this one person that it was so hard to believe that she had in fact had such a rough life. When The Contract first begins, Katy doesn't really have any good friends or close connections besides her aunt; however, over the course of the book, Katy makes   amazing friends and really begins to come out of her shell, accepting that people can not only be there for her but also love her.

The romance in this was on point! I absolutely loved seeing Katy and Richard go from enemies to business partners to friends to something more (finally!). Melanie did a great job of developing their relationship - the transitioning didn't happen too fast nor too slow. Instead, it was able to keep me hooked, dying to know when they would finally see the light. The steaminess was also on high in this one! Katy and Richard just had so much chemistry.  I loved how they constantly tried to one-up each other with "snotty" remarks - it caused for a lot of laughs, especially when Katy got extra feisty!  Better yet, they brought out the utter best in each other.

In all, The Contract is a whole lot of fun! If you love steamy fauxmance reads, this one is for you!

Review:

After reading (and loving!) The Contract, I was incredibly excited to have The Baby Clause 2.0 waiting for me on my iPad.

The Baby Clause 2.0 is a short story involving the the arrival of the newest VanRyan. I read this short story easily in 15 minutes, and I thought it was great! It was fun to see Richard and Katy add an adorable little baby to their family, and I especially loved seeing Richard go nutty in trying to find Katy in the beginning - classic Richard! It was also fun to see the addition of some of the past characters I came to love in the previous book.

Basically, this book is sweet and short, and while part of me was wishing this was slightly longer, I was happy to get just a glimpse in to Katy and Richard's future!
